Thank you cards are a heartfelt way to show your appreciation. They create a lasting impression, strengthen relationships, and make both the giver and receiver feel good.

In the workplace, thank you cards can boost team morale, help you build connections and create a positive company culture!

Keep it genuine and from the heart. Express your gratitude, mention the gift or act of kindness, and even share how it impacted you. Don’t forget to add a personal touch - a shared memory, photo or funny GIF can make your thank you note feel extra special!

To thank someone professionally, aim for sincerity with a touch of formality. Use phrases like "I truly appreciate," "I'm genuinely grateful for" or "Your support has been invaluable."

Remember to personalise your message and, if you can, highlight how their help positively impacted your work or project.

Here’s an example of a sincere yet professional thank you note:

“Hi Tom,

Just wanted to say thanks for your help with the client presentation last week. I truly appreciate your input, especially on the market trends slide - the client loved it! You really saved the day.

Next time, the coffee’s on me!

Cheers,

Alex”

There’s no right or wrong way to say thanks. But here are some tips to keep in mind about thank you card etiquette:

  • Don't wait too long. Try to send your card within a week or two of receiving a gift or attending an event. For job interviews, the sooner the better. In fact, pop that thank you in the mail the very next day!

  • Match your tone to your relationship. Write to your grandma differently than you would to your boss or client. Keep it warm and personal for friends and family, and a bit more polished for professional contacts.

  • Get specific. Mention the actual gift or experience you're thankful for. Instead of just saying "Thanks for the gift," try "I love the cozy sweater you sent!"

  • Include everyone. If a couple or family sent a gift, address them all. "Dear Uncle Joe and Aunt Sarah" shows you're thinking of everyone involved

  • End appropriately. Close your card with a warm sign-off. Some ideas are “Best wishes," "Warmly" or even just "Thanks again!"
